Ispahani "Hybrid Chilli”

A. Preparation for Seed Sowing
B. Mainland Preparation
C. Fertilizer Management
D. Pest & Diseases Management
E. Harvesting

A. Preparation for Seed Sowing Hybrid varieties:
  • Lanka 1820, CH 1820, Nagraj, Starplus

Land and soil:
  • Chilli crop grows on a wide range of soil but well drained sandy-loam soils with good fertility

Seed rate:
  • 150-200 gm seed per Acre

Seed treatment:
  • Seed treatment with Bio-derma powder works against seed-borne diseases.
  • In 1 kg seed 30 gm Bio-derma powder will be needed.
Time of sowing:
  • August-September for the rabi (winter) season and
  • February to March for the kharif (summer) season.

Seedbed preparation:
  • Well drained and fertile land is preferred for raising seedbed. The selected area is to be cultivated, crushed and levelled to bring the soil to a fine tilth.
  • Seedbed measuring 1 meter wide and 20-30 cm high and of convenient length (3m) is required.
  • A drainage channel of 50 cm width between two Seedbeds.
  • Seedbed should be solarized since 22-30 days by 0.4 mm polythene
  • Rotten cow dung and compost 25-30 kg, TSP 100 gm MOP 100 gm should be mixed with soil properly and 250 gm Bio-derma solid would be needed to control “Damping off ” of seedling on an ideal seedbed

B. Mainland Preparation
Seedling Raising:
  • 10 gm seed sown in ideal seedbed (1 m x 3 m)
  • Seed sown on seedbed in line –
    • Line to line : 5 cm
    • Seed to Seed : 2.5 cm
    • Depth : 1.0 cm
  • Shade Preparation-
A shade should be prepared according to seedbed for shelter of seedling from direct sunlight and rainfall.
  • Sackcloth to be used for direct sunlight
  • Polythene to be used only for heavy rainfall

Land Preparation:
  • The land should be ploughed 4-6 times properly followed by harrowing for breaking clods and properly leveled.
  • One month before seedling transplanting of the vegetable, farm yard manure (FYM) should be applied and completely mixed with soil.
  • 1 meter bed should be made a distance of 40 cm wide and 15 cm depth drainage channels with the help of spade and watered properly. The seedling should be planted on two lines in a bed at the evening.
  • A bio fungicide marketed by Ispahani Agro Limited “Bio-darma” should be use through mixing with rotten cow dung in the land for soil sanctifying.
  • Before 7 days of transplanting of seedling Bio-darma solid would be mixed with soil fairly and 8-10 kg Bio-darma solid applied in 1 bigha (33 decimal) land.

Seedling Transplanting:
  • By making 1 meter wide bed, the row to row distance will be 70 cm and seedling to seedling distance will be 60 cm.
  •  The Seedlings are transplanted when 25 to 30 days age or seedling of 5-6 leaves.
  • Seedling should be transplanted 15 cm inner from both side of a bed.

Irrigation:
  • Chilli plants are shallow rooted and cannot tolerate drought and flooding but need uniform and constant moisture in the soil.
  •  In water scarcity areas, drip irrigation method is advised.
  • First Irrigation should be carried out after transplanting seedlings from nursery to main field.
  • Subsequent watering should be provided once in 5 to 6 days in summer and once in 10 to 12 days in winter.

C. Fertilizer Management:
  • 5 to 8 tones / acre of FYM or compost are applied at the time of field preparation or one month before seedling transplanting. FYM should be mixed in soil properly.
  • Fertilizer should be applied kg per acre as follows.
Fertilizer Name Fertilizer dose (Kg/acre.) During Land Preparation 1st Top dressing 2nd Top dressing 3rd Top dressing
DAT DAT DAT

During fruiting stage 30 kg urea and 15 kg MOP should be applied at 25-30 days intervals

D. Pest & Diseases Management
Pest  Management:
  • Aphids:-
    • Symptoms: Aphids are small, succulent, pear shaped insects. Aphids attack the crop in winter months and at the later stages of the crop Due to this effect, the quality of pods will be deteriorated.
    • Control Measures: "Ecomec" marketed by Ispahani Agro Limited will be mixed with 1ml/liter water and then spray this solution after seven days interval.
  • Thrips:-
    • Symptoms:  This insect pest causes curling of leaves and fall down of flowers pre maturely. This pest will be sever at flowering stage though it can affect the crop its entire life cycle.
    • Control Measures: "Ecomec" marketed by Ispahani Agro Limited will be mixed with 1ml/liter water and then spray this solution after seven days interval.
  • Mites :-
    • Symptoms:These mites suck the plant juice near the mid vein on the underside of the leaf causing the chilli plant leaves to curl downwards.
    • Control Measures: "Ecomec" marketed by Ispahani Agro Limited will be mixed with 1ml/liter water and then spray this solution after seven days interval.
  • Fruit borer:-
    • Symptoms: The caterpillar eats leaves and later on bores the pod, which results in the deterioration of quality of the fruit.
    • Control Measures: "Spodo Lure" pheromone marketed by Ispahani Agro Limited should be set in pheromone trap in the field before flowering.

Disease Management:

The following are the common diseases found in chilli cultivation
  •  Root knot /nematode:-
    • Symptoms: This organism damages the root system by forming the small galls on the roots of the plant. The effected plants become yellow and wilt. Warm weather and light sandy soils are source of these pests
    • Control Measures: Selecting resistant cultivars, crop rotation and flooded rice field help in reducing nematodes.
  • Damping Off Disease in Chilli:-
    • Symptoms:This is a serious disease of chilli seedlings and mainly occurs in nursery bed. The disease infected seedlings become rot at ground level and then the plants fall over ground.
    • Control Measures: "Bio-darma powder" marketed by Ispahani Agro Limited can be used to the infected crops. 50 gm Bio-darma powder would be mixed with 16 liter water and applied at the bottom of the infected crops.
  • Leaf Curl Disease in Chilli :-
    • Symptoms: This disease causes leaves to become small in size with downward curling. In severely affected plants, the leaves start fall off. This disease usually spreads through insect pests like thrips and aphids.
    • Control Measures: "Ecomec" marketed by Ispahani Agro Limited will be mixed with 1ml/liter water and then spray this solution after seven days interval

5. Harvesting:
     • After 65-70 days of transplanting Ispahani hybrid green chilli can be harvested.

Yield:
     •     Dry Chilies: 7-8 ton,
     •     Green Chilies: 15-20 ton.
